missing regestry keys for cd drives

I'm having a problem with HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} ALL regestry keys are MISSING.
I use a R70 Samsung Laptop (which too many people handle with too much freedom...), WinVista Home Premium
Curiously enough my cd drives work (more or less) but appear as "unkown" in the task manager, and I'm unable to install the correct drivers..., iTunes, WinMedia, all sorts of programes are complaining that something is wrong with my cd drives.
any insight?
THX!

Hi barahir,

If you have a particular screenshot or two you wish to post , then it is better to post on the thread.

To post a jpeg, click the Go Advanced button at the bottom of this page and follow step 8 onward of this tutorial

How to use the Snipping Tool in Vista

Hope it helps

Re: missing regestry keys for cd drives

yup!
thx for the tip, hope these jpg can help show my problem. hope they're not too big.
anyway, I already protected my laptop with a password, so people won't be using it without permission. By what I have been told, someone uninstalled all my cd drives (who knows why)...

Re: missing regestry keys for cd drives

thx
by the way, now that I come to it, the only "real" drives are the first two, the other four that look similar are Daemon tools drives

Re: missing regestry keys for cd drives

CDROMCLASSX64.zip

Obviously the drivers for my TSST corp SH-S202H may be different.

You may find that after merging the .reg file, you are able to install your drivers and get your dvd drive in the right place.

Hope it helps

Re: missing regestry keys for cd drives

thx a lot!
but I got an error message saying that some or all the .reg files were not written because some of the keys are either open by the system or by another process
should I run this in safe mode or something?
thx again!

it worked! had a problem with permissions, solved it and included the .reg file, piece of cake!
thx again!

Re: missing regestry keys for cd drives

Hi,

Hope that sorts it out. EDIT : Let me know if you are now able to install the drivers for your device - hope so.

Otherwise, the other thing that you might try is a System Restore - if you have a restore point before this happened

Alternatively, a Repair install should do the job - it's pretty quick.

Repair Install For Vista

Hope it helps

Re: missing regestry keys for cd drives

none of that is gonna be necessary, as I edited my entry before, correcting it, it was a problem of permissions in my regestry, someone changed permissions so I wasn't able to do changes in regedit (Inês, arghhh when I catch her...). All I did was change these permissions again and I was able to add your file perfectly. After that the system recognized automatically my drives, without the need to install or update anything. Child's play!
THX again!
