Freeze, cannot play any video, high detail

Hello,

I just reinstalled Vista Ultimate x64 on my machine after replacing the motherboard. While in the process of the setting up the system, I found that my video card would work correctly unless I had downloaded the latest drivers [drivers on the disc did not work correctly]. That issue is resolved but thought it might be relevant to this current issue.

If I open IE7 [no add-ons, straight off a fresh install] my computer freezes completely and a reboot is needed. This same issue happens when I try to play a .avi in WMP11. The first time it froze I thought maybe it was the lack of codecs, so I downloaded the CCCP. After this was installed, the same issue happened. I then uninstalled CCCP and installed VLC, froze just like WMP11 both times before when trying to open video file. I loaded picassa3 on my machine to manage photos, when this begins to search for media, it too freezes just as previously described. I can play videos from Hulu.com and youtube no problem.

Here is my computers details:
Motherboard: Foxconn P45A-S LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W

Hard Drive: SAMSUNG SpinPoint T Series HD501LJ 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s

I did check Problem Reports and Solutions but these issues were not listed in the problem history. I did check device manager but there were no issues there. I can run iTunes music fine [haven't attempted video] and I'm getting no random hangs/freezes.

I am thinking this might be an issue with currently installed driver or BIOS versions. Please let me know if you require any further information.

Thank you for your time.

This baffles me and concerns me at the same time. According to Nvidia, "182.06" are their latest drivers... how can you have 185.20????

It wouldn't be a bad idea to Uninstall the 185.20, use their driversweeper and install a fresh copy of this latest one to see if that solves your issue.

Aside from that, I am stumped!

If by pre-realese you mean OLDER drivers, I would agree with you but, how can the older drivers be higher than the newer drivers?

At any rate... getting the newer/latest drivers should fix the issue I think

I resolved this issue.

I ran the Foxconn LiveUpdate software and had to update my BIOS to the most recent version.

Thank you for your help. Have a great day!

pre-release means a driver that is still in testing, have a look here at the basic software release methods > http://www.vistax64.com/graphic-car...ia-forceware-video-drivers-50.html#post978581

Sorry, got confused there for a second. Still, even if we are talking about a Pre-Release, should the number be that high compared to the one Released recently?

What I mean is, I would imagine that if the new released one is 182.06, the Pre-Released one should be close to 182.40 or 183.15 but not as high as 185.20, right?

I guess I just thought it was weird.
