corrupt or missing drivers for DVD/CD

Okay, this kind-of part 2 (an updated) problem I had posted earlier.

Basically, I cannot burn anything. I have Windows movie maker, Roxio, etc. Neither works. Cant burn photos, music, etc.

Windows pop up message is: You dont have a disk drive capable of burning files to CD or DVD.

Roxio pop up message: no drive detected (along with current display settings dont meet the requirement).

I USED to be able to burn music and photos although I dont know if that is relevant to this issue or not.

NOw......in my device manager I clicked on DVD/CD ROM drives and there was a yellow caution tringle with eclamation point next to: PBDS DVDT-RW DS-8W1P ATA Device.

Under the status it says: windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupt or missing. Code 39. And another: Could not load driver software.

I tried to click "find a solution" and it said Searching for a solution and then closes.

So before I screw up my computer...what is my next step?? Sorry if I put in too much info, im not the best Geek :0 and unsure of what anyone needs to know to help. Thanks.

Re: corrupt or missing drivers for DVD/CD

if its in w[vista you have to change the DNA mode in the BIOS it might be set to hig it happened to me when i upgraded to vista from XP 64 to vista 64 you have to go into the bios and cmos and look for the dvd/cd player burner and se what mode its in if its older than 2008 late year i would put it in UDMA4 OR UDMA5 (ULTRA DMA MODE 4 OR 5)
worked perfect for me made my burners actually work faster and better in xp they were only able to be set to UDMA3 or in 64bit UDMA3 OR 6,AND 6 NEVER WORKED!!!! IT WAS TO FAST of file transpher

found this on another forum. back up your registry first.

There are 2 reg keys that can screw the device......remove them both and reboot......

The keys are:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325 -11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} - "Upperfilters" and "Lowerfilters".
