If you go to the Gigabyte website, there will be info on how to update the BIOS.

Are there dangers? Yeah. Flashing the BIOS is always a slightly nervous time because if something goes wrong half-way through you generally end up with an unbootable machine which cannot be fixed without some real low-level hardware trickery. That very rarely happens, as long as you follow the mobo manufacturer's advice.

Have backups of all your data first of course. That's just common sense.

Too be honest I took it to a guy who repairs pc's.
The problem was out of my hands.. Seemed to just be a driver + reg issue.

My Vista system was hanging partway into the boot process. I'd been trying to find a solution for months. My boot log showed that it was hanging up on loading AFD.sys. I found a Windows Hotfix that solved my problem, which might solve your issue. Take a look at KB961775 here: New AFD connections fail when software that uses TDI drivers is installed on a Windows Server 2008 or Windows Vista SP1 system that is running on a computer that has multiple processors

Apparently there is an issue between AFD connections and anti-virus software. You have to request the hotfix from Microsoft (use this form: http://support.microsoft.com/hotfix/...775&kbln=en-us ), but you'll get a link from MS almost immediately.

I suggest that you uninstall your anti-spyware and anti-virus programs, install the hotfix and then re-install all of your anti-malware software. This worked for me.

I also have exactly the same problem as the thread starter. I have tried updating the BIOS and the link to Vista. Sadly the hotfix does not work either if you are already running SP2. So if anyone out there knows how the origional thread starters problem can be fixed with a registry driver fix please continue this thread.

Thanks, but after a full night of going rerunning the system with bits off and on I just backed up and reloaded.

The system is running as per factory resets, and I am just going to turn off updates except for security and sit pretty.
