Compaq Prisario C500 Driver Help Please

I was upgrading my friends laptop and getting rid of some of the random programs that his family had downloaded on to it. Everything worked fine, until today. The computer will no longer recognize the CD/DVD drive. When I go into device manager there is the yellow triangle with the !. I tried unistalling and reinstalling the driver, but when it came back on the warning was still there

When I go to the HP or compaq site, I can't find the model; everything has something after the "C500".

The error message I ge is: Code 39

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Make sure you make a backup of your registry before attempting to do what the link tells you to do... I tossed an old Compaq laptop because I went on a Deleting-Spree :( and then I had no OS what so ever and w/o a CD/DVD I couldn't reinstall.

Made it work with an external drive but, lets just say, it was not a fun time :p
