Updating Drivers Confusion?!?

I downloaded a program a program called Uniblue DriverScanner and it tells me I have 5 drivers that are outdated. It makes you pay for the program (which I won't do) to download these drivers. Instead, I just go to Device Manager and click on the drivers that Uniblue tells me are out of date and click to update them (Search automatically online). When I do this, it says "The Best Driver software for your device is already installed" Now is this just the program tell me these drivers are out of date so it will make me buy it, or are these drivers actually out of date. The drivers it lists are...

Display Adapters: ATI Radeon X1200
IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers:Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller (2)
Network Adapters: Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network Adapter
Sound, Video, and Game Controllers: High Definition Audio Device
Universal Serial Bus Controllers: USB Composite Device

I was wondering if anyone knows if these programs have been updated recently, or if the driver scanner program is just a hoax.

Re: Updating Drivers Confusion?!?

I would say a hoax.

You can check to see if there are more current drivers available by going the manufactorer's website. And, if you are not having any issues with your computer, you shouldn't need to update any drivers.

Re: Updating Drivers Confusion?!?

Well, I just downloaded a Core Temp. reader for my computer and it's saying my core temp. is way too high. So, I was just wondering if that would be due to a faulty driver.

I don't particularly agree with this unless of course, you are not playing games or using the latest devices or hardware, otherwise, an updated driver can help a lot.

High temps are more prone if you have bad air flow on your case. Bad air flow can come from a case with no fans or a cpu with Stock cooler.

Again, visit the Manufacturer for your PC (Dell, HP, Gateway) or if Custom built, the Manufacturer of your Motherboard and download their latest Bios and Chipset drivers for it.

Re: Updating Drivers Confusion?!?

Update your system spec.
Look at the sticky in the drivers section, it tells you where to go to get the latest drivers.
What drivers is it telling you is out of date and what version of drivers do you have.
I never use a program to tell me when a driver is out of date, if it is not broken dont try to fix it is my phiosophy. These programs just want money from people, similar to some dodgy virus checkers that tell you you have a virus and require money to get rid of it.
The only driver which normally gets updated is the graphics but you can go to the websites of the other manufacturers and download the latest ones if required.

Re: Updating Drivers Confusion?!?

The only drivers that I tend to update are the video (graphics) and audio drivers. The best way is to check on the relevant manufacturer's website for any updates. Sometimes, an updated motherboard chipset driver may become available, but I don't generally install these unless I am doing a fresh installation. In most cases, you might need to reinstall if you are updating the motherboard drivers.
