I'm not sure if this should go here or the graphics subforum but i'm going to put it here.

Basically the display driver will stop working randomly aka i'm in a game playing along then the entire thing will free and vista will say it's sucessfully restarted my driver i'm on a Nvidia GeForce 9800M GS GPU and x64 vista Home Premium SP1 also i have tried teh drivers from the Asus Site, the ones from nvidia and the ones from laptop video 2 go. All of the drivers seem to do the same thing.

It might be a driver conflict, you may have multiple drivers installed.
It might also just be a driver error.

I would suggest this:
Download latest display drivers for your device from the Nvidia site; make sure they are the correct drivers for your card, OS and systemtype (x86 for 32bit / x64 for 64bit)

Open 'computer', go to 'Control Panel', click on 'Device Manager'
Inside device manager expand 'Display Adapters' and see what's in there.
There should be ONE item namely "Nvidia GeForce 9800M GS" if you currently have the Nvidia drivers installed or "Asus <cardtype according to asus>" if that is the driver you have currently installed.
If you see MULTIPLE items it DEFINATELLY is a driver conflict. In this case you should click on them one by one and select 'uninstal' from the buttons that show up in the button bar. After that you can install the newest drivers from te package/.exe you just downloaded.

If you see only one then you can select it and click on 'update driver software'.
choose 'browse my computer for driver software' and choose the drivers you just downloaded.

After it's complete it will prompt for a restart, do this and that should have fixed it if it is a driver issue.

Good luck!

Uninstallation of a video driver must be performed before attempting installation of a new driver or corruption may occur.

Also, Check under Monitors in Device Manager to see if you have the dedicated driver for your monitor and not just a Generic PnP monitor as this may cause that problem... at least, that's what did it for me.

generic PnP isnt bad for your monitor, that actually has little to do with your graphics card drivers.

in the device manager there is a tab 'monitor', that contains the current setup for your monitor. if it is using standard microsoft drivers it will list as "universal PnP monitor".

your GRAPHICS CARD drivers are listed under 'display adapter', which is another list item.
That is the one you need to be looking at.

Sorry if my post wasnt clear enough, hope this helps =)
