Vista - HP Laser Jet 1020 drivers won't install with Vista

I have recently had to upgrade my laptop, new laptop has Vista Home Premium old laptop which is really no longer functional had plain old windows. Used a HP LJ 1020. Vista Home Premium will not allow me to install driver for this LJ went to HP site got driver for Vista and it will not install, tells me its looking for new hardware can't find it aborts install. Can anyone please help me. Not a happy camper.

Also which version of Vista do you have? 32 or 64-bit?

Thank you. I just spent the last hour plus or so on live chat with HP.....I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium, 64-bit and finally, and I mean finally, the driver installed on my system. This environment is suppose to acknowedge plug and play but it kept requesting the driver for the HP LJ 1020 which was not one of the options on my laptop. Also, for some strange reason the laptop acknowledged new hardware when I plugged the usb in for the LJ but the driver sw from HP was not acknowledging it....so after many downloads, overwriting, installing, uninstalling, removing hardware, switching usb ports and then having HP tell me that my usb cable was faulty, not....and that my brand spanking new laptop was faulty, not....the driver finally completed installation and acknowledged the printer. Now of course, tomorrow is another day! Thanks for your input though, much appreciated!

Do realize that since you have a 64-bit OS, your drivers need to be 64-bit compatible, if not, problems will arise like those you experienced, or, "if" the driver does install, the item may not work properly.
