File error setting up RAID

Hi,

I am attempting to install the software SATARaid5 from Silicon Image to run a ESata 3124 RAID controller, but at the end of the install, I get;

"An Error occurred while copying file SiWinAcc.sys. Cannot copy file to destination directory. Click Retry to retry the operation or click cancel to"

and the error message cuts off with the "retry" and "cancel" buttons below.

Of course, retry just pops up the same error message, BUT cancel brings up a box that asks, "do you want to continue setup without copying this file? and if you answer Yes, the installer finishes and proclaims success.

If you go check the directory, there the file is, but I am unsure it is uncorrupted, PLUS I cannot get this RAID driver to work properly.

Suggestions?

Dell T5400
16 GB ram
8 x 2.5 Intel Xeon processors
2.5 TB internal drives
5 TB external enclosure
Vista Business 64 bit

Thanks for suggestions.

Oh forget it. I finally got the RAID software to load and then it proceeded to flake out and lose drive volumes on format or initialization! :sa:

I'd advise everyone to stay away from Silicon Imaging Esata RAID cards; they are not worth the pain in Vista 64!

I am going to write if off as a bad purchase as it will cost me less to toss it in the trash than to try to make it work!

A day and a half down the drain...

A final update on this sorry situation; I tried Dell Support and they could not sort it out either.

Appears that if you try to copy a a large number of files across the buss it knocks the Esata SiI 3124 card offline and it can also somehow shut down the video driver at the same time on frequent occasions (die/restart).

If you power cycle the drive enclosure, the drives reappear, but die again shortly after you start writing to them and Windows says the device is no longer availalble.

Updated my mb chipset bios
confirmed latest bios flash on 3124 card
reloaded Nvidia video driver - gtx 280

no dice...

probably a bad driver for the SiI card

I'll move the array back to the old XW 8000 HP and it will work fine there. Shame is, I'll have to shlep files across GigE or USB 2 to get them to the faster workstation to work upon them.

its a crying shame...
