'Switch User' causes monitor to go into stand-by mode

Hi there,

I've been Googling without any real luck yet. Perhaps someone here knows a solution.

Whenever a user is logged on and one would select 'Switch User', the screen fades out and the monitor goes into stand-by mode. The system however remains powered on and is accessible through the network etc.

Currently I'm using the integrated Radeon HD3200 IGP (a seperate videocard will come later) which is connected using a VGA D-SUB cable. The problem hasn't been there since the installation of Vista (which is +/- 2 months ago). The initial graphics driver was Catalyst 9.4. When the problem started to occur, I've updated the Catalyst driver to 9.5, but the problem remains.

Since that time, no major things have happened on the system.

When the monitor goes to stand-by, the system (desktop session) becomes useless and I need to hard powerdown the system and let it boot again. Sometimes when I log in again, I receive a balloon telling me that the graphics driver has been restarted; ATIKMDIAG (I believe).

What I haven't tried yet is to uninstall the Catalyst driver entirely and then re-install it. Might this help? (note that I perform an update from 9.4 to 9.5)

System details:
  • Asus M3A78 Pro (AM2+), AMD 780G Chipset
  • AMD Phenom II X3 720 BE
  • 2x 2GB Kingston DDR2 800MHz CL5
  • Windows Vista Ultimate SP2 x64
  • AMD/ATi Catalyst 9.5
If someone has had the same problem or has a hint or knows the actual solution, please let me know.

Many thanks in advance!
