Display Driver nviddmkm

When I attempt to play "Morrowind" everything locks up after a few seconds. I receive a quick message that Display driver nviddmkm has stopped working and has recovered. The recovery does no good since the system is locked up and I must turn it off and start over again. Then the same thing happens again. I am rather new to this and need someone to tell me what to do.

Re: Display Driver nviddmkm

This error is a long standing issue with Nvidia graphics drivers and Vista. You will get many hits if you "Google" the error code... There is no quick and dirty solution. Try a different graphics driver and see if the problem goes away. And if your system is overclocked, you may have to slow it down to achieve stability. Good luck, you'll need it.

Thanks. Do you if there is a way to find out if that specific driver comes with the PC or is an integral part of the oblivion game CD? I have a HP m9040n, vista home premium 32, NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS video card, 3 GB Ram, 1.5 GB video ram, 640GB hard drive. Purchased 18 months ago. I have inquires in to HP and to mastertronics (from which I purchased the game), but so far everything seems stuck in neutral. If I knew the problem was in my computer I would just tell the geek squad to fix it.

Re: Display Driver nviddmkm

The trouble is with the GPU driver from Nvidia: it's not game- specific. Oblivion is not the only game affected with the problem. Geek Squad can't fix it, either, so save your money... You can download various GeForce drivers from Nvidia's website: it's worth trying some different ones to see if they work better.

This has been a long term problem for people with nvidia cards and useing vista, there is no solution for it just yet, but you can try reinstalling windows it worked for me a long time ago.
