Canon MP480 printer driver won't install

I have Windows Vista SP2 32bit. Bought a new printer on the weekend but haven't been able to download the scanner driver. The printer works fine except when I click on the scanner button from the Canon software it says something like "no scanner driver is installed for this software". I've talked to Canon but after 3-4 hours of trying, they say that it's the OS and not the CD software. Something to do with USB port conflict. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Gord

Thanks for your response. The printer is compatiable with Windows Vista. The other two websites give me the same drivers that I've tried to install at least 10 times. After I install the driver, I get a error that says the download failed and to contact the manufacture. Like I said, they blame the OS and not the software.
Thanks for the help.

Thanks but I've been there and installed that driver. Like I said, the printer works fine except the scanner tells me that "the scanner driver supported by this software is not installed. Install it and then retry." So I keep trying to reinstall the driver and get the same message. Everything works except the scanner.

I have had the identical problem. It's pretty frustrating and like a fool I didn't realize it until it was too late to return it because I don't use the scanner all that much. Now my wife wants to scan and it just doesn't work.

I returned my Canon MP480 and bought a Lexmark all-in-one but had the same problem. The scanner won't work. I tried to download the driver software many times but get the same error. I've talked to Canon and Lexmark techs with no help. It has something to do with the Windows Vista OS. Maybe a corrupt file or something like that. Returning it for another printer didn't work for me. If you find a solution let me know.

WOW! Guys after installing Vista SP2 I decided to try this again and what do you know? It scanned!! I can't think of anything else I did besides installing SP2 so I guess Microsoft finally fixed the issue.

actually the only other thing that I did change now that I think of it was I removed one stick of RAM in my efforts to troubleshoot another issue I'm having but I doubt that this issue was RAM related.

doubt it was removing the ram unless the ram stick was bad.

yeah, me too. I just wanted to be forthcoming about any other changes that had been made. I think it was just fixed in SP2.

I also am having the same problem. I am installing Vista SP2, so I hope to rectify this issue. Printer is working great, the scanner just doesn't seem to work.

If that does not work is there anything thing else I could do?
