| Vista Ultimate x64 | DirectX Hi all, Trying to install a program here. It included a DirectX 9 install which I canceled. Running Vista64 Ultimate here. The program dies on start with an error - d3dx9.dll is not found. The developers website says it needs DX9 and that users of DX10 / Vista need not worry as both 9 and 10 sit side by side in the same install. Can anyone confirm this is correct. I'd prefer to NOT mess with my DX10 configuration. Thank you Stuart |

| Vista Home Premium 64 | Re: DirectX Depending on the program you're using, I'd just shoot an email directly to the support staff. But in my experience with gaming, if it asks to install direct X, if you have a better version it doesn't seem to mess with any of my configurations, so I'd assume the developers to be correct. |

| Vista Ultimate x64, SP2 | Re: DirectX Hello stuartambient, You will have to re-install the program, only this time install Dx 9 when prompted, the program will look for Dx 9 when it needs it, if it's not where it expects to find it, then you will have problems. Hope this helps, good luck and post your results. (When you cancelled the install, the file d3dx9.dll was not placed in the program folder, so re-installing will fix the problem). | Vista Home Premium 64bit SP2 | Re: DirectX the program wont be installing direct x it will however be running the direct x update tool , direct x end user runtime it just checks for DX updates and installs them if it finds any , no app will overwrite or install direct x on your machine so dont worry. you can run the program yourself http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en and yes direct x 10 includes and is compatible with all DX 9 applications you can use the sfc /scannow command in command prompt too , to scan for missing or corrupt dll's , it will replace them if it finds any (you will need your operating system dvd) but i expect a dx update will help if not you can download the dll http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?d3dx9 |

| Vista Home Premium 32bit | Re: DirectX I tried to run Everquest 1 with DirectX 10 when I first got my Vista computer; however, it wouldn't run. I had to install DirectX 9c because that is what Everquest 1 expects. Sony Online Entertainment hasn't upgraded to DirectX 10 yet. |

All these do is check your current directX version and ONLY update if necessary and only parts that NEED updating. If you do not trust the installer provided with your program feel free to download a genuine certified directx (web) installer from microsoft site and run that to update your directX. The error you posted seems to indicate there is atleast 'something' wrong with your directx install so running the (web) installer might not be a bad idea. |
