Vista - dvd drive won't read dvd's

tried to install a game on dvd on my new computer and pioneer dvr-118lbk wouldn't read it. installed vista home premium 64, mb driver, controller driver, and some other drivers. tried to play a dvd on computer and it wouldn't read it either. device manager tells me it is up to date, but says it is a cd-rom drive. what should i try?

Have you tried this ?, it may cure your problem, give it a go and post your results.

Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs

tried it. It is recognizing the drive, i just put a cd in to see if it would work and it did. it still won't read my dvd-based game. I then put in an old dvd drive to see if it would work, and it did the same thing, will play the cd, but won't install my game.

ecs has a new driver named: mcp 78 nvidia windows ide drivers (vista). I'm downloading it now, but on dsl. will take oh about 6 hours. hopefully there is a patch in there that will fix it.
