HP LaserJet 1020 Driver

I am using Vista Ultimate x64. I have tried installing drivers several times using both built in Vista drivers and ones downloaded from HP's website. Also tried the automatic install option for Vista and manually using the add printer wizard. I have stopped/restarted the spooler process several times.

The driver appears to install correctly and Vista does see the printer and can interact with the settings. When trying to print a test page, the data is spooled and the status is shown as "printing" in the queue but never actually prints. If I cancel the print job the status changes to "deleting" but never deletes.

The only way to clear the print queue is using HP's Print Diagnostic Utility. If a print job is not in the queue, all of the diagnostic checks are green. When a print job is queued, only the "Print Queue Issue" comes back as a possible problem with "Details: Print job(s) waiting in the queue."

I have yet to find a solution anywhere else, can anyone help?
