SigmaTel Audio Problems

I guess SigmaTel is famous for putting out pretty ****ty audio hardware/software because a lot of people claim to having had problems with thier sound cards...Anyway, I have no sound coming from my speakers what so ever except for the windows error beep. Theres an "x" on the speakers on the taskbar.
The device name is there and claims to be working when I hover over the speaker sys. tray icon, also in device manager and in playback devices.
Although the Levels tab in Sound>Speakers/Headphones>Properties is completely empty.
The Volume Mixer claims there is NO audio device installed even tho' its there when I hover on the speaker icon.
I've tried uninstalling and installing just about everything possible from both gateway and windows but the problem persists...

My system:

Gateway m-1625 Notebook
32 Bit version of Vista Home Prem. SP2

Driver name: Sigma Tel High Definition Audio CODEC
Driver Provider: Sigma Tel
Driver Date: 9/7/2007
Driver Version: 6.10.5609.0
Digital Signer: microsoft windows hardware compatibility publisher

If you need any further details let me know.

I've also attached a .jpg of the said situation.

Hello Ekblu,

Here are the drivers for your notebook. The first one is for Sigmatel Wndows Vista 32-bit/64-bit Audio Driver released on Jun 2/08 version 6.10.5609, and the second one for Webcam Driver Package and mic released on Jun 11/08 version 6.2.218.524.
Uninstall your present drivers and reboot your machine. Install these two drivers and reboot PC. When done please try to check and set as follow.

Right click speaker icon in the taskbar on the right, select Playback device, in the Sound window right click Speakers/Headphones and choose Set as Default Device ( if you see this option) next click Properties. In the Speaker Properties window in General tab, in the Device usage check "Use this device (enable)". Click Apply.
Go to the Levels tab and move slider to the right, let say to 20 in volume livel on Speakers, if you see red X on the speaker icon click it to turn the speakers on. Move the slider max to the right on the PC Speaker, and turn it on if you see red X. Click Apply
Go to Advanced tab and check in the Exclusive Mode both, "Allow applications to take exclusive Control of this device" and "Give exclusive mode application priority". Click Apply and OK to exit the window.

Go to the Sound window and select Recording, right click Digital Mic and select Properties. Check the same options as you did previously in the Speaker Properties window.

Hope this will help.

Can you check Windows Update for new drivers and if there is nothing, right click the Sigma device, select uninstall, reboot and let Vista install its own driver. Then right click on the driver and select update driver. Vista may find a driver over the internet.

Tried that several times with no luck.
Vista would install "HD Audio Driver" but still I got no sound.
Im gathering my installed software backups and just going to try to reboot it to retail status....
