Vista - Trouble loading printer driver

I get the following message when I try to load my printer drivers for Brother MFC-290c.

Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while trying to install it.
This operation returned because the timeout period expired.

What can I do?

Do you have the latest drivers? Get them here if not: Brother Solutions Center: MFC-290C: Downloads: United States=

How did you go about trying to install them?

I used both the disk that came with the printer and I downloaded the driver off the website and used device manager. Either way I got the same error message

Did you follow the steps given at the site?

If the drivers are already installed into your computer, uninstall them first before you install the new driver. To uninstall the current drivers, download the Uninstall Tool. To see how to download and use the Uninstall Tool, click here.
Unplug the FAX/DCP/MFC from the AC outlet and disconnect your FAX/DCP/MFC from your computer if you already connected an interface cable.
