I just joined and need help with accessing my c drive in Vista. I created UACs for 5 users and changed permission for all to the c drive. Now no one can access the c-drive including the admin. Seem as though the trusted intaller has taken control. I have tried everything to get controll back to the admin or my user in safe mode and normal mode but was not successful. Keep getting "control editor access denied". I can't access any program installed on the c-drive from any user. I tried using the command prompt also but still no luck. I can log in and see the info on the c drive using other entries but cant run any programs. Can you help me?
Thanks so much,

I found this answer on the internet posted by a Microsoft moderator. Maybe it does the trick.

1. Go into safe mode and log into an Admin account

2. At the command prompt, type - NET USER Administrator /active:yes

The key is to be able to login as administrator.

Don’t worry if you get an error message, you might have to do some of the following steps.

3. Try NET STOP ProfSvc

This should stop the User profile service and bring you back to the login page - and if you are lucky you will have an Administrator login there.

It might not have a password if you did not set up a password when you configured the system.

3. Control Alt Delete, start task manager, Applications, New Task, explorer - this should bring up the start menu etc

4. Disable UAC [User Account Control] which might give access to your C: Drive.

Follow the steps below in order to disable UAC.
A. Open Control Panel.
B.Under User Account and Family settings click on the "Add or remove user account".

C.Click on one of the user accounts, for example you can use the Guest account.

D.Under the user account click on the "Go to the main User Account page" link.

E. Under “Make changes to your user account" click on the "Change security settings" link.
F. In the "Turn on User Account Control (UAC) to make your computer more secure” click to unselect the "Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer".

G. Click on the Ok button.

You can also refer the link below for further information on User Account Control:

http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/58b3b879-924d-4e08-9358-c316055d3eae1033.mspx

5. Once UAC is disabled - Right click on C drive > click Properties > Security >Advance > Effective Permission > Select > enter ( your name )\administrators > click OK.

You should now regain full control of your computer.

This is the reference: Lost access to C:\ Drive. "Can't open access control editor. Access is denied" error is displayed
