External hard drive problem

I bought an external HDD of 1 TB few months ago, it worked just fine until two weeks ago, now my lap top asks me to format it again or sometimes when I try again to connect it with the lap top it shows me that drive E is empty and I moved in it all may 200 movies!, don't want to lose them. HELP PLease!!

Ack, I had the same problem with a 1TB WD External less than a month ago, turned out to be a faulty HD :cry: , unlike you however and my heart goes out to you, I had everything backed up on another external, and also my internal drives.

:cry::cry: So any suggestions, ideas... I’m not very good with technical staff....

The only thing I can suggest is you try and get the data recovered. Depending on where you are, or I guess more to the point, this can be an expensive exercise. I had a hd fail on me, I got my data recovered for $80AUD, however data recovery can run into the $100's of dollars. Get some quotes, or better yet if you have a friend who knows how to do data recovery
