So yesterday I thought it would be a good idea to go through my devices and make sure all their drivers were up to date. It was going so well until I got to my graphics card. I tried to install 191.07 from the nVidia website by using the standard procedure, uninstall current drivers, then install new ones. Unfortunately when I tried to install the new drivers I got the dreaded "System has not been modified..." message.
So I read a couple of threads on sites such as this and decided to use the driversweeper software in safemode to completely get rid of the old drivers. Reboot. Install new drivers. Still didn't work. It's at this point I notice that in device manager, my graphics card is now listed as "Unknown Devce".
The hardware situation has not changed i.e. I haven't ever opened it up to fiddle about with.

As a little aside even system restore won't succesfully complete.
Any help would be greatly appreciated at this point.
