Display Adapter Problem

Hello,

I have an HP Pavillion DV9700 Notebook. Windows Vista 64 bit home prenium came pre-installed. My computer was working well for a year. Then a problem suddenly arose with the display adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS. The computer will NOT boot in normal mode unless I disable the display adapter in safe mode before... Then the normal mode graphics are limited because the display adapter is disabled... I haven't installed new hardware lately, or tried to change anything with the motherboard bios...

The incorporated program for startup problems can't fix the problem... The cpu also tells me I have a display adapter problem that it can't determine... I tried uninstalling the driver and doing a driver clean with the "driver sweeper" program... I then tried updating the drivers on the Nvidia and also HP websites but the CPU crashed and it didn't fix the problem....

I did a basic system restore earlier dates, which didn't work. I also did a FULL system restore to try and fix the problem. Even though it was a complete re-imaging restore to original factory condition that was built in (not from a cd-rom that HP didn't provide), it did not fix the problem, which kept re-occurring. This is very curious.

Further, Windows Service Pack 2 also failed to install due to error code 8007043C. A website said this might also be related to the graphic drivers but it wasn't sure.

I ran Windows Startup Repair but it couldn’t fix the problem. I got this information:
Problem Event Name: StartupRepairV2

Problem Signature 01: AutoFailover

Problem Signature 02: 6.0.6000.16386.6.0.6001.18000

Problem Signature 07: 0

Problem Signature 09: unknown (It changed to “WrpRepair” when I ran it a second time)

Problem Signature 10: 1 (It changed to “68” when I ran it a second time)

OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.256.1

Locale ID: 1033

I contacted the Nvidia customer service but they haven't found a solution so far.

Thanks for your help,

jeanmichel
