Blue Screen Error. Restarting Laptop fun! Any ideas

Hey everyone!

So I have been having problems for a while with my Toshiba Satellite laptop. I have been receiving the infamous "blue screen" error which restarts my computer. I can still start my computer and go on for a while until multiple errors pop up (not all at once) they just take turns restarting my laptop.

So to get to the point, I am receiving these errors:
MEMORY_MANAGEMENT

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

PFN_LIST_CORRUPT

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA

There might be more but off memory (haha get it?) thats all I can remember. I am guessing its the RAM but don't wanna buy new sticks if I'm completely wrong.

Oh and I have also run check disk, memory diagnostics, scanned for viruses, deleted "washed out" drivers and god knows what else. So any help would be appreciated.

Bad RAM can often cause weird fluctuations in the kind of errors your getting

Good luck :)

Oh - I didn't see the whole post.. Sorry ^^;

WMI didn't find any errors in memory???

The PFN Corrupt Error you are getting points to bad RAM or Hard Disk Read/Write problems. Either way its not looking good.

Hello Lap323,
Go to Windows > Minidump > zip up the dump files and upload them with your next post. You may have to save them to your desktop first.
Once uploaded, somebody will take a look at them for you.
Also fill in your system specs, thanks.

Do you have McAfee / McAfee firewall installed? I'm sure there was an issue with the wireless driver and McAfee that caused BSOD's but can't remember exact details...

It does seem quite an old model, so hardware would be one of the first things to check, but if tests pass then it must be a recent change to the software (driver update, registry change).

Ok so I apologize for not being more specific about my specs. I am using:

Toshiba Satellite L305
2 GB RAM (2x 1 GB sticks)
32 bit Operating System
Intel Genuine(R) CPU 575 @ 2.0 GHz
Windows Vista Home Basic

If you need anything else let me know. :)

So the memory diagnostics always comes up with no erroes, the chkdsk always deltes some random files but I usually get impatient and let it do its thing.

I use AVAST! Antivirus free.

I'm trying to upload a zip file of the dump files I found but everytime I try it says invalid file.

I should also add it usually only BSOD when I am playing a game or watching a movie. My sister plays games online and she says it always BSOD when she is playing but when we're just browsing th web or on the desktop, we don't encounter this.

Thanks for your time!
-Kyle

Well I was trying to insert the files in a zip file. Everytime I try to add the file though it says Minidump.zipx: invalid file. Maybe i'm using winzip wrong? I create an archive, add files, then i just close winzip and i think i'm done.

Ok so I did a test email to make sure and it will let me email the dump files to myself but I can't post it here for some reason, always says invalid file. If I can email it to someone would that be ok?

Ok so I tried it again and it worked! Sweet deal so here are the dump files. I just want to add again that it usually only BSOD with multiple causes for the error when someone is either playing a big game or watching a movie. Occasionally when we are browsing but it boots up fine afterwards and occasionally runs an auntomatic disk check.

You have a mixed bag in the dump files, it could be memory, a driver, or a couple of other things causing this.
We can try the easiest things first, we may be lucky.
Disconnect all USB devices and try.
Un-install your AV and try.

Follow this tutorial and try.

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/66978-system-files-sfc-command.html

Follow this tutorial to identify a bad driver.
Please read the whole article before attempting to use this software.

If after this there is still a problem, i would have to say its hardware, probably memory.
If i think of anything else i will post it. good luck.

Ok so I don't have any USB and I uninstalled AV, I ran the SFC and it said cannot repair dimsjob.dll and something about settings.ini. I tried following a microsoft walkthrough on how to repair the files yourself but I can't get it to work. This is the site i'm using: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833. I did the driver thing but couldn't find any faulty ones and I had deleted "washed out" ones already fro the device manager. Any ideas on how to fix the dimsjob.dll?

You may well have found the problem, you can download the dll file from this link, put it in C > Windows > System 32 and overwrite the one that is there, i would then run the file check again.
Please note, there is no guarantee this will work, but i cant see an alternative, other than a format and Vista re-install.

So now it won't let me replace the file. Says I don't have access to delete it and when I run the command prompt as an admin to delete it, it still says access denied. I checked to make sure I was a system admin and it said I am. But in short, it won't let me replace the file.
