Chipset driver for SM Bus Controller?

Hey guys, thanks in advance for the help.

I keep getting errors with my SM Bus Controller, which is causing my video card not to work. My PC says the driver has never been installed.

Every time I try to install the chipset/drivers for my motherboard (Biostar TF7050-M2), my PC acts like they've been installed (we go through the whole Nvidia driver installation thing), but nothing happens.

I would have no complaints about this if I didn't have to reinstall my video card drivers and reboot EVERY day, but I can't keep dealing with this issue.

    Thanks!

    moobird,
When you install your graphics card, are you installing it through the chipset or did you get it from nvidia.com?

    Let us know,
    Ben

I was installing the graphics card through the Nvidia driver program... I didn't know it could/had to be installed via my chipset. How?

Also, thanks for the speedy reply!

Try update all your drivers here:

    BIOSTAR :: TF7050-M2 :: Driver

Thank you, but I tried that - that's where I got the nvidia file.

It goes through the whole Nvidia song and dance (looks just like when I update my video card), except it doesn't prompt me to reboot... if I DO reboot, it just tells me my SM Bus Controller needs drivers. If I reboot and my good video card is plugged in (the one NOT attached to my motherboard), my screen turns black halfway through the reboot (I'm assuming it's because without the new SM Bus driver, it can't load the card? I don't know) - I know it's restarting though, because I can hear the Vista startup sound. If I unplug the cable of the good video card and let the crappy one that's attached to my motherboard do it's thing, it reboots without an issue... I CAN use my good video card, but ONLY if I reinstall the drivers and restart my PC WITHOUT the good one being plugged in... then I have to disable the crappy card, and THEN plug in the cable for the good card. Then and only then can I use the good video card (which works fine, aside from the SM Bus Controller issue).

Sorry if this sounds confusing as hell - it is!!

    Hello moobird,
Go here and try option two for both your drivers.

    Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers

Hope this helps, good luck and post your results.

    Thank you.

I tried that last night... it seems to me (but I'm no genius) that the SM Bus Controller driver isn't installing correctly. Maybe I'm expecting too much, but when I install a graphics card driver, it prompts me through the entire Nvidia installation and then asks me if I want to restart... the SM Bus Controller driver brings me through the Nvidia setup WAY faster and then, at the end it just says it's done and closes its window, it doesn't ask/tell me to restart - I don't know if that's what it's supposed to do, or if that's a problem.

Wow, thats a ton of crap you have to do. When you go into your device manager, does your sm bus controller have a yellow triangle next to it? I had a problem with mine, disabled it, and everything worked perfectly. Also, does it have any information when you look at the properties?

    Let us know,
    Ben

I'm not at home right now so I can't tell you 100% what it says, but I know it says it's been disabled. It DOES have the triangle on it, though, as does my better video card (i.e. the less crappy one that ISN'T attached to my motherboard).

    This is what it says:

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.

....this tells us a whole lot of nothing, huh?
