No CD/DVD Driver Detected, No Lower Filters

I have a Compaq Presario F700 Notebook with Vista Home Premium 32 bit for my operating system. I have not had a CD/DVD drive forever and am just getting around to it. When I first got the computer it worked and it worked for a while after that. I tried to use the

[Start] [Run] [Regedit]
Registry Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class
Key Name: {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Value Data: [Delete All Value Data from UpperFilters and LowerFilters]
Note: Do not delete the Key or the Multi-String Values. Delete only the data values.
Exit Registry and Reboot

but I did not have the LowerFilters and now I am at a loss of what to do. Please help.

first- try to download and reinstall the cd/dvd drive driver..
also make sure the cd/dvd drive is well plugged inside/.. if you know a bit of hard ware..
can't be a greater problem than that i reakon

Silly question. How do I find something more specific about my computer than F700?

you got a product number? you can type that as well on the HP website!!

does the lights comes up on cd/dvd drive when you put a cd in??

The lights do come up when I put a CD in. I talked to someone at HP and they said it was a hardware problem and not a software because the DVD drive does not appear on My Computer or Device Manager after taking it out and reseating it. Do you think it might be the hardware?

thats what i was thinking as well.. is your laptop still under warranty? you might need to replace the cd/dvd drive..
