Hello douglassd and welcom to the forums

Can you inspect the port for physical problems, such as bent contacts etc. ?

Is this a recent problem? Or have you had this for a while? Does this happen for all devices, or some in particular such as flash drives or printers?

Can you open up an elevated command for me (run command prompt as an administrator) and then type:

sfc /scannow

Let that run, it should take about 10 minutes or so, and let me know if it had any problems. All this is doing is checking the main system files for corruption and errors.

Tom

How do I run command prompt as an adiministrator?

I recieved a response saying
You must be an administrator running a console session in order to use the sfc utility

thanks

to access elevated command prompt go to start and in the search box type in 'cmd' then right click that program and click run as administrator now you can type in

'sfc /scannow'

hope this helps,
Josh

Yes, sorry I forgot to tell you how to run programs as an administrator :(

But it seems like josh has explained it sufficiently:)

You say your cooling pad works? And does that same USB port work for anything else?

i did have such problems for docking ports long time ago, and it had been solved via chipset driver update through INTEL website, since a few weeks. However, some docking ports are not recognized again recently and it is very intersesting that the system warning for such un-recognized DOCKING ports has been into PC's ports, as indicated by the attached file hereof:

My 'USB Mass Storage Device' is actually connected to one of 4 PC ports, but it is mis-read by system to the docking Port (one of the USB Root Hub (6 ports)).

The second Attached file indicates there is no any SFC problem found.

Well in that case, douglassd should take a look at:
