Webcam MS VX-1000

The little things that can go horribly wrong...Update told me I had a software update for my VX-1000 webcam, so I decided to go ahead. Unusually for an update it put a shortcut on the desktop which provided the software update (via the internet). However as I was about to go ahead, I noticed that part of this install included MS Essentials. I didn't want to download this so decided to abort the update i.e. not clicking on the desktop shortcut. Unfortunately during the initial process my VX-1000 shortcut in the Program menu has disappeared. The webcam still works if I use Skype or Messenger Live, but I cant access it manually. Is there a way I can do this or not? I tried using Device Manager to gain access to the webcam properties but it does not bring up the display that allows you to check the webcam's picture. I also tried System Restore but that didnt work and is the cause of another post.
