New adapter appeared others disappeared

I was trying to play a game that required Standard VGA Graphics Adapter to be activated. I went in and RADEON 9600 Series (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM) was displayed along with Standard VGA Graphics Adapter. I chose the Standard and closed all the windows. My game played fine after that. I then shut down the computer and went to bed. When I restarted the computer the desktop was back to normal and I couldn't play my game. I went back in to adapters and this time both the RADEON and Standard VGA options were missing and replaced with Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family listed twice with no other options. What in the world could have happened? how do I get the Standard VGA Adapter back?
