USB flash drive needs to be formatted

Hey.
I cannot get access to my USB flash drive which, when inserted a message appears saying it needs to be formatted. If I try to format, it says the disc cannot be formatted.
Any idea(s) as to why?

I did as above except when creating disk partition, this message appeared:
There is insufficient disk space to create a partition at a specified size and offset.
Specify different size and offset values or don't specify either to create the maximum sized partition.

Theog - are there any instructions on how to create a maximum partition.
Also, why is the USB acting out like this? It was fine before it suddenly asked to be formatted and then refused to format- is it a virus or what?

This software has a GUI & is easy to use: -

Select the device (drive letter) & use the selectable options for partioning & formating etc. for the USB flash drive.
