You need a new driver. Go back to device manger and update driver or even better go to website and get the best driver.

    Re: Mass Storage Controller

Is this an external hard drive and did it come with software?
I see it is listed under other as Massive Storage with yellow flag on it.

    Re: Mass Storage Controller

Hi, thank your for the prompt reply.
I tried to right click the 'Mass Storage Controller' and choose 'Update driver software', but after loading for a while, the pop-up screen said 'unable to find the driver software' and ask me to 'find the manufacturer of the device'.

I have no idea how to find it by myself. what website do you suggest to get the best driver?

    thank you.

    To The Howling Wolves:

I am not sure if it is an external drive, but it is very likely. I tried to uninstall some programme on my laptop last week, and I think I probably deleted some programme that I shouldn't. I can't remeber what it is. Is there any way I can find out what I have mistakenly uninstalled?

    Thank you.

    Re: Mass Storage Controller

Go back to device manager, you can get all the information that you need. Then we can help.
Follow this to get information on the driver, not to download the driver
    Device Manager - Install Driver

    Re: Mass Storage Controller

The reason I ask for soluation for this problem is that, I think, it affects the performance of my laptop. I have been having trouble recently to switch on my computer, the system seems not to respond. I have to force to switch off the computer and turn it back on again by choosing the SAFE MODEL. I then run a system restoration under the SAFE MODE, only by doing that, I can get back to the normal window and use it.

Do you guys think it is anything to do with this Mass Storage Controller? can I just disable it and ignore it, or I need it to be fixed to run my PC properly. ?

    Thanks guys.

    Re: Mass Storage Controller

Another idea Rich is he might do a System Restore to when everything was working and the Word doc item was present.

If he gets the Word Doc back, then he needs to back up his files so this doesn't happen again.

    Re: Mass Storage Controller

That would work, unless the driver is corrupt or outdated.
