Vista32 firewire

Hi,

I have never been able to get firewire to work on my pc. I have an Alesis firewire mixing desk that I have been trying to marry with my Vista32 firewire system through the express card port using a IEEE1394 cardbus. Tried lots of various drivers, but, no luck. All used to work fine on an old desktop computer running XP, but, that died on me so, resorted to using my laptop running Vista which won't recognise the driver/s.
Am I wrong in thinking (from the research I have done) that I will have to change my O/S to enable the firewire to work? Have seen lots of info online about the firewire problems people have with Vista32. Any info regarding this would be appreciated.

Thanks

Ricky

Hi,

I have a little more info on the drivers.....

I have the latest drivers for the firewire.

Microsoft driver,

Date, 21/06/2006

Version, 6.0.6002.18005

Dig Sig, microsoft windows.

The express card is, Logilink 2 x IEEE 1394A

They are easily found in the device manager and appear to be working fine according to the info in the properties box.

IEEE1394 Bus controller, Texas instruments OHCI compliant IEEE 1394

Hope some of this info is helpfull. I think from what I can gather this is a microsoft problem. Alesis who make the mixing desk I use, have no updated drivers to overcome this problem. As far as I can see.

So, do I change my O/S or get another puter? Something I cannot afford really. As I said before, all worked fine on windows XP O/S on my previous computer.

Any insight/help would be appreceiated.

Cheers

Hi,

Looks like I'm flogging a dead horse with windows and firewire then. It's been a couple of years just about, since I had this "issue" with windows Vista firewire. All over the net I can see lots of people with all kinds of different firewire equipment cannot get Vista firewire to work properly if at all. Guess there is nothing left to do but either dump Vista O/S and go with XP, or get another puter running a different O/S.

Cheers

Hi,

I think the issue is with Windows Vista & the use of MS drivers on third party hardware. The information above is somewhat contradictory. That is to say, Vista with SP2 & MS signed drivers from 2006?

Can you revert your system to the original Firewire drivers for your motherboard?

See the above link to your drivers!

Is this one for your device? http://www.logilink.eu/IEEE1394.htm?seticlanguage=en
