Checking for new drivers.

Hi forum,

Is there any professional site out there that will scan my OS for new drivers ?
Most of the ones I have "googled" are not really free and when you proceed with an installation try to scam money out of you before they will tell you anything. They are no different to those irritating so called free Registry checkers that inform you that you have hundreds of errors to extract money from you. Help appreciated.

Stay away from those sites that scan for drivers; mostly just money making schemes. Go to search, type cmd
in cmd type driverquery. See many that are dated prior to 08?

Hi Richard,
Yes, quite a number (around 60%) would fall into this category. What do I do about it ?

Several things Peter.
First set windows update to include drivers and then
Go to search and type device manager, update all that you can for there

Second, wait several weeks all that are not updated, do this:
How to Find Drivers

search Google for the name of the driver

- compare the Google results withwhat's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongsto

- visit the web site of themanufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers
-

Yes, it takes time, but well worth it.
Incidentally, if you are not having problems, you can do this slowly a few a week. There is no rush.

Thanks,Richard, I'll follow instructions and take my time. I am changing to Windows 7 this week so that might assist me in a lot of my problems. I am doing the Full Clean Install and wiping that wretched Vista off once and for all. Peter. One point, however, when I try to update drivers in Device Manager, even troublesome ones, it states that they are up to date. Puzzling.

I don't think its possble to get full updated drivers... I have drivers from '05 in my system.... damn found one from '04.

I'd be less concerned if its old than if youre having issues.

everytime I try to update my NVIDIA nforce networking controller, it always has the yellow flag beside it in the device manager and gives a cod 10 error. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it and it doesn't seem to work

Do you go to the Nvidia site or try to do it from the Device Manager? You should always go to the site.

I don't think youre going to find it.

It's pretty old... The hp driver is versiuon (65.65) WHQL, from '07.

You might want to go and ask on the nvidia site, which drivers will work... if any.
