Puzzling...

I have found that a PS/2 mouse only works before you log on, and as soon as you log on, it stops working. I have tried 2 PS/2 mice. When I have a USB mouse plugged in it works fine, but only after you have booted, otherwise it freezes when detecting IDE drives. This is the same across Linux, Vista, 7 and XP. The PS/2 mouse works fine if the USB one is plugged in, but then the USB one doesn't work. Please help me solve this. It is confusing me.

If this is happening on separate operating systems and the mouse is fine then I think that something is wrong with your motherboard and there isn't anything that you can do to fix it other than possibly fixing it by flashing the bios or doing a bios upgrade. If either of those goes wrong you could permanently mess up your computer. If it where me I'd use the USB mouse and save up for a new one.
