    Audio Driver (Code 10) Vista

I have the latest version of Audio driver IDT High Definition (CODEC) installed. My problem is that it will not start. My device manager shows "this devise cannot start (Code 10)." I previously had sound and one day it was gone. I have been fighting this for months. My speakers are plugged in and powered on. I show "No audio autput devise is installed." Can anyone advise what I can do to solve this problem?

    What motherboard are you using?
Are you using onboard sound or a sound card?

Look at this page, it has the drivers for your device and explains how to install:
    IDT/SigmaTel Audio Driver Version: 6.10.5939.0

I went to the site you listed and checked to see if my computer model was listed, but it isn't. This driver appears to only apply to Notebooks since they are the only models listed. My model number is GT5408. Do I still use it?

As it is the same audio device there is no reason why it would not work.

Okay, here is what happens when I try to do the driver setup: I follow the wizard and the first step is it automatically updates the audio hardware configuration. When this is completed, I get the error message "exit error=Device Object not present, restart the system and run again. The same thinng happend on the second and third attempts. I am not sure what "Device Object" this message refers to. Anything else to try?

Here are the drivers listed for your computer for the gateway site
    Gateway Support - Downloads & Support Documents - Desktop / GT Series / GT5408
Here is a description of what a code 10 error is
    http://www.windowsanswers.net/articl...ecannotstartuk
Basically the computer cannot load the drivers for your audio device.
Let me know how it went.

I GOT SOUND!!!!! I downloaded an up to date driver and installed it and that was the problem. This amazes me because my Windows system kept telling me the old driver was current. It just wasn't starting! I really appreciate all your help and advise. Thanks loads.
