No Synaptics Device Settings in Properties!

Hi,

I am trying to help a friend who had a laptop custom made.

The Touchpad is so sensitive that whatever it touches it opens. You don't even have to click. She uses a USB mouse because of the sensitivity issue.

Looking in the Mouse Properties there is an image of a PS2 mouse. No Synaptics Touchpad Settings what so ever to be found.

Under the Hardware tab in Mouse Properties and in the Device Manager it states:

Name
PS/2 Compatible Mouse

Type
Mice and other pointing devices

I compared it to the Device Manager/Mouse Properties in my laptop and mine displays:

Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad

This is a no name laptop that in my opinion was Frankensteined together and the hardware for the touchpad was never installed.

Could someone please give me an idea as to how to find the appropriate software/hardware to install to make the touchpad usable?

Thank you,

Donna

Can you determine what kind of motherboard is in the laptop?

If she had the laptop custom made, she should be able to contact the person who made it. Perhaps the subject is sensitive.

Hi ilikefree,

Thanks for the link. I was just taking a look when wither 3 posted.

Hi wither 3,

She took the laptop back several times and paid for them to "adjust" the touchpad for her. They told her to use a USB.

Trust me. You do not want to take your computer to these people. Very bad rep! She refuses to take it back yet again and I don't blame her. There's more to this story but I'd have to write you a novel to explain.

Perhaps the subject is sensitive.
Meaning? Or did I hit the nail on the head above?

I installed Belarc Advisory. In the report it states:

Main Circuit Board
Board: JFL92 IFT00

It has a Compal BIOS that I had never heard of till now.

From ilikefree's link, would the following work?

Windows XP/Vista and Win7 32-bit Edition v15.2.20 All Languages 55.43 MB exe

If you are using 32bit I would give it a try.
As always before making system changes make a restore point first.

Ok. Thanks for letting me know.

I did get the Driver installed. I still have no access to control the sensitivity for the touchpad though. When I click on the Device Settings tab then click on the Settings button below the Devices: I am confronted with a Wheel Mouse on PS/2 Port screen and I have only the option to adjust buttons. Under that is > Overview. When I click on the arrow to the left of Overview it says Patent Notices. No other options for configuring, Tapping, Virtual Scrolling, Pointer Motion , nor Sensitivity

Let me know if you need an image to see what I am seeing.

Getting late here, too!

Thanks for your help so far. :)

Just wanted you to know that you interpreted my "sensitive" comment correctly.

If you uninstall the mouse, can you get to that same screen.

Note that the motherboard you listed is used by numerous vendors such as Dell, Compaq and others.

Hm. Concerning the sensitive comment, I thought so.

Give me a day or two to get back to you with the results of uninstalling the mouse. I need to focus my sights on my personal laptop that just crashed leaving me with a black screen that displayed "Missing Operating System" on reboot before I could follow through with richc46's guidance on macrium we were discussing in the following link.

Macrium Image discussion

Just another example of why it is important not to put things off till the last minute!

By the way, when I said uninstall the mouse, I just meant unplug it after you're at that screen. Don't know how to get there otherwise. I thought maybe the touchpad controls aren't available when a mouse is connected. It's a long shot.
