[help] Video Driver is Different after Reinstall

    Sup Guys,
Anyways, I got attacked by a trojan virus disguised as an anti-virus. It told me I had a virus inside and asked if I wanted to remove it. I clicked "Clean Computer". It later came back on and said "Restart now to finish clean?" and I clicked "restart". After that, things started spiraling down to hell. I tried to boot up but it keeps staying on the loading screen (before the login screen) and then it would automatically shut down. I've tried to run the automatic windows restore but it wouldnt work. I even used a windows defender offline 64-bit disk to remove the virus but it wouldnt boot. Oh yeah, it wont boot in any safe mode either. I refused to spend 70 bucks to get a full factory restore so instead, like a dummy, I tried to do it myself. I did NOT have any disks(driver disks, restore, windows install, etc). The laptop was given to me by a cousin who had no need for it anymore. The restore started working at the beginning but after I got to the splash screen where it says "windows is finalizing" (or something along the lines of that) it got stuck. I left it for an hour but it did not reboot or anything so I deleted the 2 files in the "Startup" folder and rebooted. It then led me into the start up screen you get when you buy a new laptop. I filled it all in and then logged in. I noticed right away that the screen resolution was different than it was before the trojan attack and I tried to change it. For some reason it only had 2 choices of screen resolution. Also, the colors are all different. There is no transparency like there was before the attack. I believe the color scheme had changed but I dont know why or how to fix this. Also, the Standard VGA graphics adapter wont work (error code 10 or something like that). Is it because I dont have all the necessary information for it to reboot successfully? I know in the stores and stuff they have AV cords to plug in or something but I dont. Is that what I did wrong? Also, all my java and drivers are all out of date. I'm currently using windows update to try and see if this fixes anything but I really need some help. I'm using a Toshiba Satellite U405-S29153. OS is Vista Home Premium with Intel Centrino. I dont know what to do. If anyone can help me, thank you. Also thanks for reading through this LONG thread.

If it will let you get into the Safe Mode, try doing a system restore to before the virus attack. Or, you could try running Malwarebytes.

I couldnt boot into safe mode. I have meant to try malwarebyte but I forgot and instead restored it to factory default through the advance settings after failing a normal system restore. I just want to change the resolution to 1280x800(default) but it only gives me 2 options that doesnt fit right.

I guess I misunderstood your original post. You said you deleted some things from the Startup tab and then were able to log in (boot?). On that basis, I assumed that Windows was now running and that you would be able to boot into Safe Mode.

Now you say that you reset Windows to the factory default. I guess you're still not able to boot into Safe Mode. To fix that, you can try resetting your BIOS to the defaults or possibly reinstalling the BIOS.

What you need to do to get your video working correctly is to go to the Toshiba support website. Find and install the motherboard drivers.
