WD external hard drive refusing to boot.

    WD external hard drive refusing to boot.

    I have a WD 1TB my book essential external hard drive with a model number of: WDBACW0010HBK-UESN

    My OS is Vista Home Premium 32bit


    When I boot my pc, it doesn't go past the bois screen (where you can press del to go into the bios settings etc. but I can't actually use those buttons) and I have to unplug my external hard drive to be able to boot my pc, and then attach it.



    Is there a way I can boot my pc while it's still plugged in?

    -I've checked the bios read boot order, I made sure it was my cd drive, then my internal hard drive.

    Have youy got the newest BIOS?
    ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download P5GC-MX/1333=

    There seems like there may be some issues with older BIOS and usb drives.

    I have done that.. That's the first thing I did.

    I was wondering if there may be some form of driver that I'd need to the external hard drive itself?

    No, its just like any usb device.

    to me is as if the computers trying to boot from it.

    Have you tried putting normal hard drive before the cdrom? I've read that some systems think udsb drives are cd drives so it trys to boot.

    I've just tried putting my main hard drive first on the priority list, still no success :/
