Allowing non certified drives to be installed

New Member
I was given a hint that in order to install driver needed to operate virtualbox in safe mode I need to adjust some settings somewhere in Control Panel - I should "Allow" non certified driver that by default most probably are "Blocked automatically" .

The problem is that I cannot figer it out where exactly in Control Panel I can find these options to change them. HELP

Really apreciate prompt help as it is quite urgent

Thanks in advance

Hello international and welcome to the forums

I'm unaware of this option being in control panel. Safe mode isn't designed to run 3rd party drivers, so I doubt Windows would have a configuration page for loading one. You can add registry keys to force drivers/services to launch in safe mode, but I would advise against doing so - it's a technique that malware uses. If you're up for a bit of experimenting, then we can try this, but I can't guarantee success. I would only feel vaguely comfortable in doing this is we had a full system image to fall back on. It's your call though, just let me know what you want to do :)

If you don't mind me asking, why are you trying to load VirtualBox in safe mode?

Tom

Ignore this: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot

Thanks for the reply Tom982 .

I've started a topic at VirtualBox forums - https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=49948 - and user called mpack have suggested to look on how my system handles uncertified drivers.

I am trying to manually install one of virtualbox drivers (of course doing it NOT in safe mode) and it gives me an error as per picture I've attached there in VB forum.

The reason I need to use my virtualbox in safe mode is that I need to install Guest Additions for 3D option. It has to be installed while running VB in safe mode.

I've got Optitex software with 3D models which I cannot see as my virtualbox currently do not support 3D.

Hope you can give me some advice on this issue as it looks that no one else can.

Thanks again

Hi international,

Okay, that's great. Perhaps consider dropping him a PM as a friendly reminder to reply to your thread - it's been a week since his last post and he may have forgotten. I would be very interested to hear the outcome of this.

Have you tried following this tutorial?

How to Install VirtualBox Guest Additions | Packt Publishing Technical & IT Book and eBook Store

I think I've completely misunderstood you. I thought you wanted to boot your PC in safe mode, then run VB in this; not boot your VM PC in safe mode in VB (if that makes any sense :S )
