A device attached to the system is not functioning.

Hello,

I have a dell inpiron 530 desktop and I recently reformatted the disk and installed the original factory OS. Everything seemed fine until I tried to connect it to the internet. It failed connecting to the internet because I forgot the install the network drivers. DOH.

Ok, so I then tried to install some drivers from a CD; however, every time that I try to boot the driver application, it gives me an error, stating:

"A device attached to the system is not functioning

Could not start up DellResourceCD.exe"

I've been looking around the internet for the past few hours now and I can only find solution applied to different scenarios than mine. So I was wondering if anybody had a resolution for my situation?

Any advice would be much appreciated, thank you.

I suggest going to Device Manager and checking to see if there are any errors as indicated by a yellow exclamation point. Sounds like the driver for your optical drive needs to be reinstalled.

Note, I would go to the Dell support site and get the drivers since they are probably more up to date than the ones on the CD.

Do you have the Dell Resource CD?
