HP Laserjet 4m+ quit working on Vista

Just a message about a networked HP 4M+ that all of a sudden wouldn't print from 2 wireless connected laptops and one etherlink connected desktop, all running Vista Home Premium 32bit, SP2. Computers running XP continued to print. All the Vista computers came up with error messages that said the printer wasn't connected, but could ping the IP address of the printer. After trying many different suggested fixes, including removing and re-installing the drivers, I re-checked the configuration on the printer itself, and although the IP address and mask were OK, the gateway address was 192.168.1.100 instead of 192.168.1.1 as it is on my network. I changed the gateway address to the correct one, and all three Vista machines now print. Don't know why the XP still worked, or why the Vista machines all quit at the same time (probably an update). HP and Microsoft were no help at all. Just something else to check if you're having a similar problem.
