Solved recovery options load drivers

Hi all, i am new to this forum so please forgive me if i am posting in the wrong section.
i need a little help to resolve my hard drive fault: i have been reading quite a lot about the fault and understand what is wrong, however i cannot move forward untill i resolve the drivers loading issue..so to explain where i am and what my issue is; i will start with my system and then the fault and how it developed.

1. 1720 ispiron laptop with Vista home premium installed, 320 gig hard drive 2 gig of memory..a std machine basically.
2. The hard drive failed to boot after a simple lid shut, safe mode is not bootable
3. error code is 2000-0142 self test fail..
4. error code 0f00:1344 uncorrectable data error
i belive that this type of error can be fixed with Check disk! unfortunatly the recovery option cannot see my c: drive and allow me to run it through the command promt option.
The repair option wants me to load the drivers to see the hard drive!! which i have found on the support disk and identified as i1386\R154200\IAAHCI.inf
This is my issue now...the driver fails to load and i cannot move past this point, can anyone assist me with this issue?

Quick update on this issue, i have been into Bios and changed the Sata setting to ATA, this has had no effect, however i have managed to get rid of the "failed to load driver" dialouge box, i.e. the drivers appear to load but the C: drive still will not show, if no replies are forthcoming then i will have to assume that the hard drive is truly tattered.

The error code 2000-0142 means the hard drive self-test failed and the hard drive needs to be replaced.

Does the computer have an active warranty? You can check the warranty status here (Enter the service tag, click submit and check for the warranty status). In case of expired warranty scenario, we would not be able to extend warranty entitled services. If the warranty on the computer has expired, you may contact our Expired Warranty Services (this is for US based customers).

Many thanks Allan, the laptop is out of warrenty now, i have ordered another hard drive, a 500gb 2.5" Scorpio black, i just hope that this is a good hard drive to fit.
