Hey, I've noticed that when I plug my hard drive in: Samsung Barracuda 7200 8 (200gb) Vista didnt want to install, it would just idle on a screen.. so I pulled it out and it installed fine, now a few months have gone past and I really need some of the stuff on the hard drive, but when I put it back in and boot Vista won't boot it just sits on a blank black screen after a while.

Could anyone give some suggestions as to why it might be doing this, is it possible for me to use the hard drive on vista or am I going to have to go back to XP ? - thanks in advance

Hey,
What type of a Hard Drive is it : IDE,SATA ??

Also if the Hard Drive doesnt have an OS in it ,make sure the computer isnt booting from that hard drive(200GB Barracuda)
(Go to BIOS and change ur 1st boot Device to your other HDD).

Thanks for the reply, it is a IDE hard drive, it is booting from the correct drive because I see that weird Vista bootloader come up.. I think it's called GLDR... Im not sure, anyway then it asks me if I want to boot in safe mode or normal mode and which ever one I pick after that the screen just goes black insted of loading the OS... it might be loading but its been up for about 30 mins now (im on a laptop) and it doesnt seem to be going anywhere.. but I'll post back if it does actually load, any other suggestions?

hmm ... Strange that Vista doesnt boot when u connect this HDD.
Is your PSU powerful enough for your system ?
(Disconnect an optical drive temporarily, connect this HDD and see if vista boots fine)

Also try replacing the molex connector,IDE connector of the HDD and see if it boots.

BTW are you sure the Barracuda you are trying to install does not have Bad sectors on it / isnt dying ??
(I maybe wrong but PC not booting, getting stuck is a sign of a bad hard drive)

Lets hope thats not the case :)

Let us know.
