How do I install an older game on vista?

I have tried to install a game from 2005 called MEDIEVAL TOTAL WAR.

I put the disk in the drive and the install option does not even appear.

My compuer makes a noise as if it is trying to do something but nothing happens. It is not the disk because I have installed it on my brothers XP os.

I am using windows vista home basic. The game requires a DirectX 9.0 compatible video card.

Could anyone help?

Can you browse the contents of the CD Drive? (right click drive / open).

If you can, try running setup in compatability mode (right click / properties).

I have tried right clicking and opening it but nothing happens.

A little picture of A CD keeps appearing by the end of my cursor arrow as if it is trying to load but it just wont.

I have managed to install theme hospital on my computer. It needs directX 5 and it installed fine.

what could possibly be wrong?

It's a bit risky, but sometimes its' possible to copy the contents of an install CD to the hard drive, then run the setup.exe (or install.exe or whatever it's called) from the hard drive. It will possibly ask you where certain things are, and then you navigate to them on the hard drive.

It worked for me in the past on some older operating systems, but it doesn't always work.
