How do I install older games on Vista?

I have tried to install a game from 2005 called MEDIEVAL TOTAL WAR.

I put the disk in the drive and the install option does not even appear.

My compuer makes a noise as if it is trying to do something but nothing happens. It is not the disk because I have installed it on my brothers XP os.

I am using windows vista home basic. The game requires a DirectX 9.0 compatible video card.

Could anyone help?

Hi ctolley,
What happens if you put the disk in the drive, restart the computer, then go to Start > My Computer and go to the CD/DVD Drive? Maybe then you can right click on the CD/DVD drive and choose "autoplay". Or double click the drive and run setup.exe or install.exe.

Well firstly..is it compatible with Vista 64..check the website. Secondly..have you tried to go into the exe properties and flag it as Windows XP compatible?

Hi Ctolley,

As CoolChris suggested, you should try using XP SP2 compatibility mode on it. Try opening the DVD and manually click on the setup/install file first. If it still does install, then use the compatibility mode on the setup/install file.

See: How to Use Compatibilty Mode in Vista for how.
