Vista - BF2142 Startup

So I recently installed BF2142 and I now currently have this problem on the startup as soon as the screen goes black. I recieve an error saying "BF2142.exe has stopped working" and it gives me the option to check online and close the program or just close the program.

The only way ive gotten it to work on vista is with the cd version,
I have the downloadable deluxe version and I cant get it to work on vista 32 or 64

To get it to work you need northern strike, and the 1.40 patch.

install in the following order.

1) install battlefield 2142
2) install patch 1.40
3) install northern strike
4) reinstall patch 1.40
