Adriaan,

Welcome to the Vista x64 Forums

Here's a link for free direct support for SP1 from Microsoft:

https://support.microsoft.com/oas/de...4&gprid=500921

I hope this helps.

Re: Microsoft Dungeon Siege problem SP1

Hey Adriaan,

I worked this out. The error is to do with the CD check at the start. So... think of a way to remove the CD check (probably can't say it on this forum). Also set compatibility to XP SP2. Just tried out Lazarus successfully.

Good luck.

Re: Microsoft Dungeon Siege problem SP1

I have Dungeon Siege Legends of Aranna working just fine on my system.

Come come now, no stealing of software.

What I did, was to on the compatibility tab for the game shortcut, was to set check Disable Visual Themes when the game starts up.

Re: Microsoft Dungeon Siege problem SP1

No one said anything about stealing anything. Using a no cd crack on a purchased game is fine. I know alot of people who have never downloaded anything illegal but use no cd cracks on every game they played, mostly so they dont have to switch cds, and in rare cases like this one, to avoid buggy cd checks.

Re: Microsoft Dungeon Siege problem SP1

Sorry to bring this old thread up again.
I got vista X64 with SP 1, and an orginal DS LOA.
However I cannot seem to play it, there's always an arror message and when you press enter several times, you are prompt to "please insert your Game CD --> click OK or cancel" When I clicked OK, the same error message apperars again an so on and so on.
I've tried installing the latest Win Vista May 2008 compatibility pack (KB94756), set compatibilities to Win XP SP 2, disable visual themes, but none of them works.
Any advice on how to start the game?

Re: Microsoft Dungeon Siege problem SP1

Do you have another partition / HD available? I find that running older games, especially those not written for Vista, work a lot better when trying to run from a non standard location (IOW, *not* from C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (X86) )

The reason is that Vista marks the Program Files directories as protected areas, so that any thing that is not run with the Trusted Installer privilege is not allowed to write data to those folders, or any sub folders.

An alternate that you can try is to run the program with admin privileges, that might get the CD Check working correctly.

Another alternate is to take control of ***that game folder*** only.

I still recommend installing to a different location on a different HD / partition. If you have that available, do a custom install and tell it to install in D:\... (just replace C with D) where D is your other driver letter.

***NOTE*** DO no try using an external drive - that will be more headache than you care for.

Re: Microsoft Dungeon Siege problem SP1

I installed it into my second hard drive, so it's completely a different drive than C:\Program Files (X86).
