Windows 95 games on vista

When I try to load the game 'Hogs of War' on vista, it says it will only play on windows95. Is there any way to play it on vista computers?

Re: Windows 95 games on vista

Hi Mark,

It is possible for some, but not all, older software to run on Vista. You need to try running the program in compatibility mode, and you may need to try various combinations of the options available. Windows 95, as by its name, is now 13 years old and is no longer supported by Microsoft.

Hi Mark,

Welcome to Vista Forums.

In addition to Dwarf's post, you can see how to use Compatibility mode in this tutorial if needed.

Re: Windows 95 games on vista

hi, build an image from the game, mount a virtual drive and try to play it from there.
Go to the properties of the executable game file where you will find the option to run it in compatible mode for xxx and xxx abouts trying out those options one by one untill run them all, may one work.
Experiment to run it in safe mode also. Find out about the game for any patch or fix from the developers, also.

Cheers!

Re: Windows 95 games on vista

Hmmmm, I was able to get this game to somewhat run in Windows Vista. I did select Windows 98/ME compatibility mode to get past the Windows NT error it kept firing back at me but unfortunately it wouldn't let me run any further because of the 64-bit OS.

Thinking of dual booting with Windows XP 32-bit just to play it. That or I could go to Amazon and buy a PS2 and get the Playstation used game for about $35.
