Unreal Gold in Vista 32

Hello to all. I am new to Vista, and definitely not in league with the pros, but I have gone through all the gaming posts, and followed the suggestions for downloading updates, especially the SP1. Here is my issue: Despite troubleshooting; updating all drivers; downloading and installing SP1, and performing all automatic updates, I still receive a critical error message regarding virtual memory, which crashes the game after the first level, when loading the second level of the game.
My system is a HP Pavillion dv9500; windows vista home premium 32 bit OS; AMD Turion 64x2 1.90 Ghz; 1938 MB RAM;
I changed the compatibility to those recommended for win 95 games; have increased the virtual memory via custom settings to the maximum of (1938 x 3) allowed per system.

I love this game, and really want to play it on my laptop, but at this time, I do not have any free money to upgrade or purchase or make changes in hardware, etc.

Does anyone have a fix for this?

Re: Unreal Gold in Vista 32

I tried to play the unreal anthology games on my old computer and got BSOD'd every time. It would either happen in game or when I exited. I got tired of it and finally just uninstalled them. I haven't tried them on this machine. I think they just did a crappy job trying to get them to work on new machines. Sorry that doesn't answer your question but I'll be watching this thread to see if anyone comes up with a solution. I wanted to play them again.

Re: Unreal Gold in Vista 32

thanks for the reply Bubba. I can play it on my fairly new computer that is running an upgraded win98/winxp; one I had custom made about 7 years ago. It's the vista that is the problem; I uninstalled the unreal game today; going to run another windows update, then reload the game;

unreal gold has been very good for me otherwise; it really gets my goat that microsoft puts out a 'fix' that doesn't really fix; then says, well, the only real solution is to upgrade to 64 from 32. I did not realize this was a 64 forum when I posted; I was simply looking for tips on how to get unreal gold to work; am going to try and find a 32 forum;

thanks.

Hello tamivilla,

Welcome to the site, We arnt just a 64bit website I myself use 32bit...

Unreal Gold does work under Vista I guess you need to contact Unreal Games for some old patchs or try the game though Steam as it works for me running it from there.

Yeah but what about us folks who find steam to be an unwanted virus and refuse to use it? Refuse to the point where I will uninstalled halflifeII from muy old computer and will not buy anything that requires the virus called steam to be downloaded on my computer? Is there a way to get Unreal to work or was I just screwed again by steam and them not saying on the box (AGAIN, as they did with halflife) that you have to use their virus to play the game?

Re: Unreal Gold in Vista 32

You can get Unreal working....download the patch's from the link in my post..

I know what you mean about Steam, It can be a pain sometimes but the changes where necessary to keep games fair online or do you want a million cheaters with god mode?

If you tried learning about Steam you would understand just how good its features are and how to use them all to your advantage....
