Hi guys. Im not sure what to do here. Im using Q9450 cpu, evga 9800gx2 gpu and asus striker ii 790i mobo.
Recently ive been trying to encode video using Convertxtodvd but it always crashed after about 5 mins. I switched to TMPG dvd author and all was fine i could encode my video. Today i installed Crysis on my pc. My pc froze completely after about 10 mins of playing it. The sound was repeating itself and the computer didnt respond to anything. I had to restart the comp, i then loaded it up again for it to crash after about 20 mins of playing. Im not really sure what to do. Not sure if its my hardware or software. Im using vista 32bit but i tried installing windows xp pro and the same freezes occured. I would be grateful for any help! thnx! |

I updated my drivers a few hours ago for my gpu. Got the most recent ones from the site. I thought it had been fixed as it allowed me to play for over an hour before freezing but it wasnt:/

From the nvidia site you mean? Are you using the latest WHQL nvidia driver, latest beta driver from nvidia, or latest unofficial leaked beta driver from another site? Also, do you have any other intensive games on your computer or is this only happening in Crysis and ConvertxtoDvd? Is your system over clocked with custom voltages or is it all on auto?
The freezing could be caused by many things. For example, my rig showed no signs of weakness even with Crysis, but for some reason, the new Source engine would freeze on me after a couple of hours of play. I discovered I had to up the voltage on my ram just a notch, and since then I've never had anymore troubles. |

Sorry for the slow reply Spd i have just woke up
Thx for trying to help me. I installed the driver from EVGA | Support | 9 Series Driver Download. This is my first rig i have built so im a bit of a noob. Im guessing all my voltages are on auto! I havent tried any other high spec games. The only game i have tried playing is the old Starcraft:P and no problems there. Im really not sure what drivers i need. Thnx again. |

Since it doesn't sound like you may have any hardware problems from over clocking, you can try updating Crysis to the latest patch like dmex said and update your video driver to 175.16 which was just released as WHQL yesterday. Also, does your computer have sufficient cooling?

I'm hoping you do have a largish power supply on that thing. If not, that might be something to look in to.
Heat is usually the culprit when you can run for a while and then run into problems. Especially the heavy duty apps you mentioned |
