Alt-Tab Frame Drop CS:S

Hey guys,

You helped me out once, let's see if you can do it again!

When I launch Counter-Strike Source, there are no problems with my frames at all (around 300+ in spawn). However, as soon as I alt-tab out, then back in to CS:S, my frames drop all the way down to 30 and stay pinned there. I don't know if this is a driver issue, or if it's a Vista issue (Aero and such), but it really get's frustrating after a while.

Any help is appreciated!

My specs:

Asus P5K-E WiFi
C2D E8400
2GB Corsair Dominator DDR2-1066
BFG 7900GTX
Soundblaster X-Fi

Hi Rockster,

You could try setting the Advanced Launch option under each game properties..

Click the image to open in full size.

After you set the launch option, run the game and it will permanently change the dxlevel in use...delete the launch option if you want to save the new video settings after the first run and if you want to use dx9 again just change it to -dxlevel 91 and follow the same procedure..

There are heaps of other options to try...from scripts to hidden Steam functions it just depends on what you want to know...

Yeah, I use launch commands and heapsize, but it still doesn't solve the issue though. My roommate has the same setup only with an 8800GT (and no issues), so I'm wondering if it is a driver issue because my card is old and not optimized for Vista.

Hi Rockstar,

You shouldnt Bump posts, you can get in trouble...I will eventually get around to replying but this site has over 30,000 users and can take a just a little while in replys...

I checked the screenshot and your graphics card is mre then new enough for CSS, I see your using a old graphics driver however...Can you check for a later version here: NVIDIA Driver Downloads - Automatically Detect NVIDIA Products

Oh my bad, didn't know that I shouldn't bump posts. I'll try those new ones out.

Well, what's weird is that the drivers I have are actually up to date (169.25), so I'm not exactly sure if that is the issue.

That's so weird... when I checked the NVIDIA page and searched for drivers, it showed the 169.25 drivers as the latest ones. I'll give these guys a try and see if it helps.
