Nvidia Drivers Crashing all Games

Crysis, Assasins Creed and about all other DX10 games keep crashing.

REALLY ANNOYING

I have an 8800GT OC 700/1750/950 (DIY OC with RivaTuner), E6750 2.66GHz OC 3.6GHz (I tried it on stock speeds to test if it was the OC and it still did it) and it crashes to the desktop every now and then but it still annoys the hell out of me. (When i say 'Now and then' i mean every 20-30 minutes). I have 179.19 drivers and it has done it with all of the drivers I have tried (I didn't OC my 8800GT and it also still crashed + my whole system is insanely stable (8 hours 12 threads of Orthos max temps 48 and 51)) Running ga-p35-ds3, 2 500G HDD's, Tuniq Tower LFB, Coolermaster 550 PSU, Corsair Dominator Underclocked 900MHz RAM, Jetway 8800GT, Antec 900, Vista x32 Sp1 + All other available updates

I NEED HELP

Hi Matt,

Do you see any error messages when these games crash and can you post a screenshot of GPUZ?

and then in a poof of smoke it let me... :sarc:

yeh thats about as technical as it got...

also you can OC your Q6600 to about 3.85GHz if you wanted to

got a friend who runs his at 3.83 dunno what vcore though

lol - Oh - I thought you meant you fixed the errors - your post before the image has been changed and I never saw that you could not post images....

And is he OCing on air or water cooled?

And I don't want a CPU that is gonna be breaking 50C at idle - I am at a comfortable mid-to-high 30s at idle, and don't break much past 46 under load - nice and cool and still OCd.

Air cooling. Mines a Dual OCed 3.6 from 2.66 and its highest temp is 51 with 12 threads of Orthos running

I have the Tuniq Tower too. Hell good aye

You should be able to go at least 3.6 but if your temps get too high (id go tops 60C load) then maybe you need a better case ie Antec 900 3 120mms and a 200mm keeps my stuff pretty cool

Read my Sig....

oh, heck, here - Tower Tuniq 120 LFB.

And I am extremely new to OCing - I never OC'd before, other than running RMA in Dual Channel mode, and I just built this about a month ago...I have stability issues when taking it above 3.2 right now, so I know I need to research more and figure out what is going on, but, also, as you know, when OCing, no two CPUs are guaranteed to perform identically even when using identical hardware.

Yeah i suppose...

But you should still be able to get in the range of like above 3.6 + stability probs might be from RAM (i have huge ones) just change you memory multiplier down to like 2 and all your probs should go away. BTW knocking the RAM speed down doesn't really slow ur computer down at all (unless your hell picky about speeds but i don't think you are). Mines on 2x and my rig runs crazy fast and stable (vcore for 3.6 is only like 1.39, don't wanna go ova 1.4) but it all depends on temps. DL orthos and run a few threads at a time for a couple of hours. If it is stable after 4 or so hours then it should be fine and i know, i know some people would say stress testing should go for longer but i don't wanna have to wait 8 hours just to use my damn computer... :D

+

Im new to OCing too. But i got some encouragement to see how far i could push it so i did. Planning on going to 3.8 myself

At 3.6 (Dual core mind you) mine idles at 25 and 31C, so temps aren't a problem. All you have to be careful about is having it idle above 45ish, more like 50C but being safe here.

I have not bothered to overclock and my system seems fast.
As with your system crashing look in your error logs and your performance logs.
This may point to what is causing the problem, if it is software.
If you carry on getting problems turn the speeds to the factory default and oc one item at a time.
It may be an error with your memory causing the problem, run a memory test.

Awesome case eh

Plus OCing would make your already fast computer even faster...

Think about it

Also fixed crash prob had to DL drivers from guru3d.com. 175.70. Now i don't hink there supposed to be released yet but they fixed my crash problems. Been playing Assasins Creed for the last couple of hours without any problems. Yah to Nvidia finally getting it right

mine doesn't hit 50 under load, so I am good on temps now. As far as OCing though, remember that the Quads are a bit harder to OC, and the 6600s were binned crazily, so I may get a nice OC fro the Quads but I might not.

I am happy with 3.2, I mean my last CPU was a P4 3.2 - this is 4 times that just because of the number of cores, plus the increase in speeds with the RAM and what not....

I am happy with it for now. I may do some research with it later to push it above the 3.5 threshold which seems the be one of the major places where this CPU starts buckling under air cooling.

At least I ended up *not* using 4 sticks of RAM - that would have been too much for my poor MCP....

@Roy - it ain't the RAM< I have tested it three times (and once it succeeded through 11 passes when I was gone for a couple of days)....

But I referred to stability issues *at* OC - not on default values. On default values I never saw a BSOD, unless I was looking at someone eles's image trying to decipher what they had done / what had happened to them.
